Inside The Blockchain

🔺What we’re watching: Ava Labs is collaborating with digital assets firm Animoca Brands, in order to expand its operations throughout the Middle East and Asia.

🔺Why it matters: The deal gives Avalanche access to Animoca’s existing network in Asia and the Middle East — the digital assets firm holds a broker-dealer licence in Dubai and has an active office in Hong Kong.

The companies said they would initially focus on entertainment, real-world assets (RWA), and digital identity, with an eye towards investing, exploring product integrations and advising projects building on Avalanche.

Originally a game software company, Animoca later on diversified into NFTs and blockchains, backing a number of projects such as OpenSea, Axie Infinity, Pudgy Penguins, and CoinMarketCap.

More recently, its Moca Network secured a deal with SK Planet, one of South Korea's largest technology platforms, to build blockchain-enabled experiences within SK Planet's existing internet services.

🔺The bigger picture: This collaboration is less about the technology, and more about the connections it brings Avalanche. Animoca has commercial infrastructure, institutional relationships, and a sizable capital base that it may use to back new projects.

“Our initial focus will be on identity integrations and RWA tokenization, but our broader goal is supporting builders within the Avalanche ecosystem and boosting its adoption,” said Omar Elassar, head of global strategic partnerships and managing director for Middle East at Animoca Brands.
