Inside the blockchain

🌐What happened: Aptos Labs announced its Aptos Move Compiler, which brings new features to the Move programming language to “fill in the gaps,” Aptos Labs said.

🌐Why does it matter: Aptos Labs designed a new compiler to support Move 2—the next generation of Move on Aptos. It’ll provide more features and a modernized architecture to Aptos users and developers, in comparison to the original coding language. In turn, the team aims to bring a smoother developer experience and drive more innovation onchain.

The inspiration to refine the Move language came from conversations with builders, Wolfgang Grieskamp, Move platform lead at Aptos Labs told Token Relations. The new Move compiler will make it "easier to use and more expressive to satisfy the needs of builders," he added.

It's also important to note that the technical background of this new compiler was developed separately at Meta, Grieskamp said. “Until now, every extension to Move had to be implemented twice, in the compiler and in the [Move] prover. The new compiler has a unified architecture for compiler and prover which streamlines this situation.”

Upon its release, the Aptos Move Compiler will be in beta testing. During this time, developers can provide feedback and receive rewards up to $10,000 for finding any semantic bugs. Bug bounty programs like this aim to keep networks safe by having white hat hackers identify any risks before bad actors – and rewarding them for their efforts.

🌐The big picture: Aptos Move Compiler, Aptos Labs’ update to the Move coding language, can create new possibilities and greater security for Move developers thanks to its new features and bug bounty program.
