Inside the blockchain
🌐What happened: In case you missed it… builders in the Move ecosystem may be getting more funding as OKX Ventures and the Aptos Foundation launched a $10 million fund last week.
🌐Why does it matter: The OKX and Aptos Foundation’s accelerator fund, dubbed Ankaa, will be focusing on developing an accelerator program for projects built on top of Aptos.
It will be run by Aptos Foundation, OKX Ventures and Aptos’ existing accelerator Alcove. Projects chosen to be a part of the program can also receive $50,000 SAFE investments.
It will also provide Aptos ecosystem projects within Ankaa venture support, mentorship, go-to-market exposure as well as a network from the participating parties.
While there’s a big DeFi push within the Aptos ecosystem, it will also focus on infrastructure, real world assets, gaming, social, AI and other dApp developments.
🌐The big picture: There’s a lot of ecosystem-focused funds across the crypto space. Whenever a new specified fund launches, it signals to developers and users alike that there’s motivation from the teams supporting them as well as opportunity to build.
Accelerator programs often open the door for novel, new startups to launch and then be incubated, mentored and guided to the next level.
Similar to Aptos’ mission, the fund has a strong focus on bridging the gap between DeFi and TradFi and institutions outside of the web3 space. In general, OKX is no stranger to investing either as it provided capital to over 300 projects globally with about $1 billion in its total fund size.
“As we witness the next wave of adoption – spurred not only by the Ethereum and Bitcoin networks but beyond – we're enthusiastic about the prospect of Aptos becoming a major player in the blockchain space,” Jeff Ren, a partner at OKX Ventures said in a statement.
In April, Aptos partnered with Microsoft, Brevan Howard, SK Telecom and consulting partner BCG to expand Aptos Ascend, its end-to-end FSI suite powered by Microsoft OpenAI Azure and its blockchain tech. This DeFi partnership aims to scale Aptos’ presence in TradFi-DeFi.
This fund furthers Aptos’ commitment to expanding DeFi, alongside other use cases being built on its network.
