By The Numbers

The percentages and metrics are based on a 7-day timeframe from Flipside data as of Aug. 12, unless noted otherwise.

Inside the blockchain

🌐What happened: Aptos recorded 48.5 million transactions on August 13, surpassing Ethereum and Base in daily transactions, which respectively recorded 1.1 million and 4.0 million transactions during the same time frame. (chart below)

🌐Why does it matter: The recent spike in activity on Aptos can be attributed to the launch of Tapos Cat’s second game "Jump Jump and Jump", a "tickle-to-earn" game that gained popularity since the launch of its first game. In late May, Aptos surpassed Solana by daily transactions at the time, with more than 10 million transactions coming from Tapos.

Tapos has brought in hundreds of millions total transactions and within two days on mainnet, the game processed over 300 million transactions. The Aptos network processed over 147 million daily transactions and surpassed 4,000 transactions per second, at the time of writing. These numbers pose as impressive stats considering it is the second day of the game’s release and there’s continued momentum.

Tapos Cat offers users the opportunity to earn $HEART tokens by interacting with a virtual cat through "tickling," which results in multiple transactions to occur.

"Bots or not (this is a permissionless network after all) let’s be honest, how many chains could have handled a spike like that," Mo Shaikh, cofounder of Aptos Labs, said in a post on X. "Aptos handled the volume surge without skipping a beat."

And it’s true, stress-testing a chain’s capabilities is important, especially as they continue to scale. If a chain can’t handle a significant amount of transactions, it’s in for a rough future. But Aptos hitting peaks shows the blockchain’s capabilities today to handle surges effectively.

🌐The big picture: Aptos has managed to maintain consistent gas fees and successful transactions, even when transaction volumes spiked. This stability is a result of the network’s aggregator feature, which enables the simultaneous processing of multiple transactions, ensuring a seamless and efficient user experience.

As this metric continues to transpire, the amount of transactions on the network can become an attractive measurement for interest in Aptos, the growing web3 gaming landscape and overall viability of the chain
