Inside the network
🔺What we’re watching: This week, Avalanche Summit in London is taking place and Ava Labs CEO Emin Gun Sirer shared what’s next for the network.
🔺Why it matters: Avalanche’s ongoing goal is to make all of the chains within its ecosystem perform as if it were one single chain.
In the past four months, Avalanche has implemented two network upgrades: Etna and Octane. These were made in design to enhance performance of the ecosystem by allowing Avalanche layer-1s (L1) to have its own coin and improve gas fees.
With these network upgrades set in place, Avalanche has its short-term roadmap set in place. But an upcoming upgrade will be able to enable async execution for the ecosystem.
The implementation of async execution to Avalanche can enable it to speed up a single chain by enabling consensus to overlap with execution. This means actions can happen simultaneously instead of waiting for one execution to finish before starting another. By applying async execution to Avalanche, one of its L1s can process transactions faster because it’s doing consensus and execution simultaneously. This speeds up the whole system without needing extra chains or resources.
🔺The bigger picture: The integration of recent upgrades are designed to make the user experience on Avalanche more seamless as if it were a single chain. In turn, it looks to position Avalanche to scale more efficiently and support a wide range of use cases for adoption.
For DeFi, faster transaction speeds and lower latency look to improve trading efficiency and user experience on decentralized exchanges and lending platforms.
For Real-World Assets on the network, an increased throughput and better reliability would provide more secure and rapid tokenization, resulting in transfer of assets like real estate or bonds.
For web3 gaming, async execution can support low-latency and high-volume transactions. This plays an important part for games that want to ensure smooth in-game economies and player interactions.
Amongst all these purposes and future upgrades like async execution, Avalanche looks to create a network that is used by retail investors, every day users and institutional players.
