Inside the network

🔺What we’re watching: As more use cases for interoperability emerge and teams integrate it into their applications, this will become the magnet that will pull people towards decentralization, executives from Ava Labs said earlier this week during Token Relations’ Avalanche quarterly webinar.

🔺Why it matters: Blockchain technology is becoming more attractive to institutions and game studios as teams continue to innovate and more attention is focused on making infrastructures more user friendly and interconnected.

“Decentralization is something most can take for granted. You don’t know you need it until it’s a little too late,” John Nahas, Ava Labs chief business officer, said during the webinar.

“The ability to have a private permission chain, live alongside a public permission chain, and a public permissionless chain within the same network, really shows what blockchain technology can offer,” he added.

Avalanche announced last week its network upgrade labeled Avalanche9000. This upgrade aims to make the development of layer-1 networks on the Avalanche network more cost efficient, easy and interconnected.

And when they say cost efficient, they mean 99.9% cheaper than existing costs for deploying an L1 chain on Avalanche, according to Ava Labs chief operating officer Luigi D’Onorio DeMeo.

This opens the door for more chains to deploy on the Avalanche C-chain. Avalanche L1s and projects on the C-chain will also have more ability to move an asset across networks, and be more interoperable. In the overall network of private permissioned chains, these chains can interact with public open-sourced chains, effectively making the architecture more connected.

“The need for a more scalable environment for enterprises or products that need product market fit becomes more noticeable as teams develop,” D’Onorio DeMeo said during the discussion. “As more web3 games such as Off the Grid become more popular and hit millions upon millions of transactions a day, they’re going to need an upgrade and EVM won’t be enough.”

Building on top of the Avalanche network can be seen as an attractive option for developers. Users can choose to build something with public infrastructure on day one and deploy on the Avalanche C-chain. From there, if projects develop product-market fit and want customization, they can also deploy their own Avalanche L1.

🔺The bigger picture: Nahas and D’Onorio DeMeo emphasized that Avalanche9000 is the team’s short term and long term goal. As the overall web3 space starts to see more web2 brands utilize blockchain technology for future product releases, the Ava Labs team is committed to creating an environment that can be attractive to developers and users in and out of the industry.

If Ava Labs can create a system of networks that cater to any need an institution or game studio has, while emphasizing on customization, Avalanche can become a go-to network for deployment of anything.
