Inside the network
🔺What we’re watching: Avalanche saw a surge in user activity from October 13-19, with transactions reaching a high of 234 million across 29.4 million active addresses. The network also saw daily transactions hitting a 12-month-high of 49.7 million on October 19.
🔺Why it matters: Transaction and active address milestones highlight a network’s capacity to handle high amounts of activity and substantial traffic, while upholding robust security measures.
Although transactions and active addresses aren’t the best indicators, since one user can execute multiple transactions or control several addresses, the scale does demonstrate Avalanche’s efficiency when it comes to processing high volumes without compromising performance.
Across the industry, a person who operates multiple wallets is known as a “sybil user,” and such users can disproportionately inflate a network’s user metrics, since it won’t reflect unique or new users on a chain. However, onchain data shows that Avalanche’s sybil users are at an all-time low of approximately 7,700, which indicates that the majority of addresses interacting with Avalanche’s ecosystem are real people.
🔺The bigger picture: As Avalanche continues to ramp up its contributions across diverse sectors like institutional adoption and gaming, these network activity milestones reinforce its position as a resilient and mature blockchain.
Sustained growth in user metrics is a signal of a thriving community, which helps to attract liquidity, increase innovation and improve adoption. Notably, high user activity can help Avalanche stand out, fostering long-term ecosystem expansion.
