Bobu’s Lunar New Year Airdrop

The Bobu Experiment, an initiative led by the Bobu community in collaboration with Azuki, conducted a Lunar New Year airdrop on February 17 using Animechain. The campaign covered 11,827 wallets, each of which received one ERC-1155 token, regardless of how many Bobu NFTs they held.

The airdrop utilized the ERC-1155 standard, allowing tokens to be distributed in batches in order to keep transaction costs low. The Bobu Experiment team noted that the airdrop cost less than $2 (347 ANIME) in transaction fees, and expects future campaigns will be even cheaper once the chain goes live.

On March 3, the airdrop was updated to include artwork commissioned from 10 artists affiliated with Bobu. Each distributed red envelope NFT reveals one of the 10 pieces, and one user has a chance to reveal a golden envelope, which awards a 1:1 artwork and collector's merch bundle, the Bobu Committee told Token Relations.

The Bobu Committee said artists were given flexibility in how they interpreted prompts, provided by Azuki sub-community Storii Collective, for their pieces rather than following a fixed brief. “The intent was to support artists within the Bobu community and reinforce Bobu’s role within Azuki’s broader narrative while carrying forward Bobu's innovative spirit through experimentation,” Jason, Azuki’s head of community, said.

Bobu is part of the broader Animechain ecosystem, and Azuki and the Bobu Committee said it chose to run the campaign on the network because it is both designed to support anime-related intellectual property and it is EVM compatible through its partnership with Arbitrum. This allows campaigns such as this one to use standard Ethereum wallets without requiring additional cost or operational setup.

The airdrop also doubled as a test to see how the chain can function long term.

All in, Bobu’s Lunar New Year campaign functions as an early example of how Animechain is being used to distribute artwork, support artists, and run community campaigns.
