Inside the network
🔺What we’re watching: Uptop, a fan engagement platform built on Avalanche, partnered with the Detroit Pistons to launch "Pistons Rewards."
🔺Why it matters: The platform leverages Avalanche’s technology to offer features like digital wallets and receipt scanning to enable fans to earn “Pistons Points.” This is the platform’s second NBA partnership after the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Through this, the team can reward fans through transactions at participating businesses. These points can then be redeemed for exclusive rewards like VIP experiences, tickets and memorabilia.
Stemmed from Uptop’s partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons look to replicate a similar experience for its fanbase.
“At our core, we’re in the memory-making business,” said Detroit Pistons Chief Revenue Officer Dan Lefton. “This program allows us to engage in meaningful ways beyond the arena, turning everyday purchases into exclusive experiences and deeper connections with our team, our players, and the Pistons community.”
A recent Deloitte study found that engaged fans spend six times more than unengaged fans on tickets, merchandise and digital content. This showcases how platforms like Uptop can drive loyalty and investment in the Pistons’ brand.
As for Avalanche, the network is able to demonstrate its ability to handle consumer-facing applications by powering Uptop’s rewards system. Since Uptop integrates digital wallets to support consumer applications, it showcases Avalanche’s potential beyond traditional blockchain use cases.
🔺The bigger picture: The integration of blockchain technology can transform traditional loyalty programs into immersive, interactive experiences. As more people spend time online, experiences like these can deepen fan connections through rewards and community-building globally.
The integration between Uptop and two NBA teams suggests a broader shift toward web3-based loyalty programs. With both activations on Avalanche, it can position the network as a key facilitator for the future of fan-centered engagement.
