The State of Flow

These metrics are accurate upon publication. The percentages are based on month-over-month change, unless noted otherwise.

What Caught Our Eye This Month

  • Flow’s monthly chain fees rose to a record high of $1.9K in the last 30 days. Growth in chain fees typically indicates increased economic activity on the network, driven by higher transaction volume and app usage.

  • Flow is upgrading its primary USD stablecoin from USDF to PYUSD0. The asset is backed 1:1 by PayPal USD (PYUSD),  and introduces LayerZero's OFT standard for cross-chain functionality.

Go with the Flow

🌊 What happened: Flow released a new React-based developer toolkit that simplifies how apps interact with its blockchain.

🌊 Why does it matter: The SDK bundles common tasks — running scripts, sending transactions, connecting wallets, querying onchain data, and interacting with Flow’s EVM — into standardized React hooks and UI components.

Building on Flow previously required combining multiple libraries and handling wallet states, transactions and UI logic manually. The React SDK consolidates these into a single, consistent interface.

The SDK is also structured to work with AI coding tools. Flow says it was built to help AI-generated code match Flow’s actual interfaces in order to reduce errors and speed up development.

Because the toolkit supports cross-infrastructure interactions, apps can move assets and call contracts directly from Flow. This makes it easier to build DeFi and payment apps that rely on multiple environments, such as Cadence-based logic and Ethereum-compatible contracts.

🌊The big picture: Flow is focusing on building for consumer-focused financial apps, including lending, payments, and asset management.

Recent launches like Flow Credit Market and Peak Money address the user side of this effort. The React SDK focuses on the developer side by making it easier to create those products in the first place.

By centering its tooling around React, Flow is targeting a wider group of developers, including those who may be familiar with traditional web development, and looking to reduce friction for new builders entering the ecosystem.
