Injecting The Biggest Developments

Highlighting some of the largest announcements from Injective.

🥷 What’s happening: Injective’s community has approved the IIP-617 governance proposal, which changes how new INJ tokens are issued. The update, called the INJ Supply Squeeze, will permanently reduce the rate at which new INJ tokens enter circulation, effectively doubling the network’s deflation rate.

🥷 Why it matters: Unlike temporary programs or one-off burns, the change adjusts issuance rules at the protocol level, controlling how supply evolves over time.

By issuing fewer tokens and continuing regular buybacks and burns through the Community BuyBack program, Injective will reduce the amount of INJ in circulation at a faster pace than before.

This links supply changes more directly to network activity: when the protocol generates revenue, some of it will be used to buy INJ from the market and remove it permanently, while fewer tokens are added.

🥷  The bigger picture: As more activity moves onchain, Injective’s Supply Squeeze aims to ensure that increased usage will affect token supply in a more consistent and measurable way.

Other networks, such as Ethereum, have introduced a similar practice: instead of relying solely on fixed issuance, the blockchain began burning a portion of transaction fees, so higher usage could lead to lower net supply growth.

While Ethereum’s price performance still depended largely on demand and broader market conditions, the change altered how supply behaved over time and made issuance more sensitive to real usage. Injective’s Supply Squeeze looks to follow a similar path by hard-coding tighter issuance rules and pairing them with ongoing burns.

Expanding The Financial Ecosystem

Updates on the latest network of dApps, validators, builders and more helping Injective expand its financial use cases.
