Injecting in the biggest developments
Highlighting some of the largest announcements from Injective.
🥷What’s happening: One of Injective’s main north stars is to become the blockchain for finance, and that includes bridging real-world assets with blockchain technology.
The release of Injective’s iAssets was created “as a primitive to bring more functionality and utility to real-world assets,” Injective Head of BD Mirza Uddin said during the Injective Quarterly Webinar with Token Relations.
🥷Why it matters: One of the most hot sectors across the entire crypto industry right now is the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA). Many consider it as one of the best ways to bring users onchain and introduce crypto rails for every day use cases. However, while it has found product-market fit, Uddin believes it's only getting started.
“ Since certain assets are restricted, such as stocks, ETFs or indices, we thought, ‘how can we bring it onchain, while adding more functionality from day one?’” Uddin said. “When a user onboards, they should be able to access RWAs 24/7, with leverage, and actually have it be composable with the rest of crypto.”
Injective is also seeing a growing interest from institutions and retail investors to integrate traditional financial instruments into blockchain ecosystems in order to enhance accessibility and functionality. The thought behind bringing RWAs onchain could be seen as emphasizing composability. This means RWAs can interact with other decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and expand the access points for onchain trading.
In the past month, iAssets recorded more than $2 billion in annualized trading volume with a 56% increase in the number of assets on it, according to data shared with Token Relations.
Furthermore, increasing the amount of access points a user has can be the name of the game for Injective. “[iAssets] have been a real winner for us on the user side of things,” Injective Ecosystem Marketing Manager Rocky Rock said during the webinar. “We're seeing traction on that side [with] ETFs and individual stocks.”
And there’s more to come in the pipeline. “In the near future, you're gonna see a lot more intricate and unique assets being launched that were otherwise restricted to retail investors, or very complex to access, as it required a lot of capital,” Rock said. But with onchain finance, that could change.
🥷 The bigger picture: A number of blockchains and protocols are diving into tokenization as the demand for onchain finance continues to grow. For most blockchains, DeFi is one of - if not the - biggest category. So capitalizing on this sector is important in the competitive landscape. For Injective, iAssets brings that edge and helps it bring more use cases into the onchain economy.
As Injective tokenizes more stocks and ETFs for onchain trading, it can bleed into other aspects that appeal to retail and institutional investors alike.
While there isn’t a need to reinvent the wheel as ETFs and stocks are already proven financial avenues for users, the introduction of blockchain technology makes it more accessible to a multitude of markets and on a 24/7 timeframe. With that said, the network looks to lay the foundation needed to approach a future where onchain finance can compete with traditional finance at a global scale.
