Inside The Blockchain

🔺What we’re watching: Japanese tokenized securities company Progmat plans to move its platform from Corda to a dedicated Avalanche layer-1 (L1) network.

🔺Why it matters: Once Progmat completes the move, it would bring more than $2 billion in tokenized real estate and corporate bonds to Avalanche.

Japan’s security token market has been seeing institutions shifting from limited trials to routinely issuing assets on blockchains. The country’s blockchain market is expected to reach $252 billion by 2034, according to market research firm IMARC, and platforms are expected to need regulated infrastructure that can support high crypto volumes.

By moving to a dedicated Avalanche network, Progmat will gain faster transaction settlement and the ability to tailor network rules to regulatory requirements. This will reduce reliance on closed systems and make it easier for the company to connect with blockchain tooling used outside Japan.

🔺The bigger picture: Progmat’s migration follows Avalanche’s recent growth across Japan. Existing deployments include onchain mobility research with Toyota Blockchain Lab; payment and settlement work with SMBC Group and Densan; yen-backed stablecoins issued by JPYC; stablecoin testing with Simplex; and NFT-linked consumer projects involving Bowmore, owned by Suntory.
