Movement Monthly

LayerBank raised $2.3 million in a pre-seed round, with participation from Move Industries CEO Torab Torabi, Coin Bureau Chinese, DVchain, Taiko, Rootstock, and select angels.

A multi-chain lending protocol, LayerBank is already operational on 17 networks, including Movement, BSC, Taiko, Rootstock, and Plume. The company will use the new capital to finalize development and execute a token generation event (TGE) for its native governance and revenue-sharing token, $ULAB. Notably, LayerBank has chosen the Movement Network to host its TGE, one of the chain’s first major ecosystem token launches.

A TGE is the moment a protocol officially creates and distributes its native token to the public. For LayerBank, $ULAB is built to power the protocol’s long-term economic model through a proven vote-escrow, fee-sharing, and buyback-and-lock design. Token holders who lock $ULAB for governance votes receive greater yield on supplied and borrowed assets, a direct percentage of all protocol revenue, and lasting protection from sell pressure via continuous buybacks that are permanently locked.

Money-market protocols have historically served as primary TVL anchors for their host chains. Aave, the clearest example, currently holds approximately $33 billion in TVL, representing nearly half of Ethereum’s $71 billion. It also routinely captures 40%–60% of TVL on every L2 it fully commits to. The arrival of a revenue-generating lending primitive with strong tokenomics alignment has repeatedly been one of the most reliable catalysts for sustained liquidity inflows.

By choosing Movement for ULAB’s deployment, LayerBank is looking to create a self-reinforcing loop: as TVL increases, the more fee revenue it generates, resulting in stronger user incentives to supply and borrow on Movement.

As Movement matures, securing an established, revenue-positive money market as its flagship TGE is the exact type of anchor-tenant event that has driven market share toward L1 networks.

What’s Move-ing the Ecosystem

  • Encode Club has kicked off its $30K Move hackathon. Signups are open until the end of December

  • Movement shifted 65M MOVE tokens from its Ethereum Strategic Reserve to the Movement Network Strategic Reserve, and is routing another 50M MOVE tokens through Binance. This is meant to maintain healthy withdrawal liquidity on exchanges while relocating more tokens from Ethereum to the Movement Network.

  • Monthly active accounts hit a 30-day high of 18.9K on Dec. 7

  • Movement integrated with Replit to launch the Move Builder Kit to break down barriers for blockchain and smart contract development

Tapping into the Community

  • Mosaic completed its two-week trading campaign, which saw $4.3M in volume, 75K transactions, and 3.8K new wallets

  • Meridian’s central liquidity and yield protocol hit total trading volume of $1.5B on Dec. 3

  • Movement hosted X spaces with its Nigerian and Turkey communities to provide network updates for those regions

  • Move hosted a debate over its programming language and the EVM
