Spotlight on Optimism’s Superchain

Highlighting some of the biggest updates on Optimism’s Superchain this week.

🔴What’s happening: Conduit and Succinct Labs partnered to make zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) more accessible for OP Stack Chains.

🔴Why it matters: This announcement is aligned with the ongoing efforts by OP Labs and Succinct to integrate ZK technology into Optimism’s rollups, as evidenced by the release of OP Succinct.

Developers and users can benefit from instant finality and avoid the seven-day withdrawal period associated with optimistic rollups by enabling Conduit’s OP Stack Chains and adopting ZKPs. This shift looks to enhance the overall scalability and security of OP Stack Chains and rollups across the Superchain ecosystem.

Just a couple months ago, Conduit also transferred the ownership of the “upgrade keys” for Mode, Zora, and Metal L2 to the Optimism Security Council. This signified a big move for these layer-2 (L2) networks to move toward full decentralization. Its partnership with Succinct Labs also highlights the collective effort to decentralize governance while maintaining robust network security.

The integration of ZKPs has long been regarded as a superior solution to optimistic rollups due to its faster finality and reduced gas fees. The road to decentralization has been a long-term goal for Optimism and chains within the Superchain, as outlined in its technical roadmap.

🔴What it means for the broader ecosystem: The introduction of ZKPs through OP Succinct within the Conduit ecosystem looks to accelerate the usage of more secure, efficient, and scalable technologies across the Superchain architecture.

This initiative points to a broader movement toward modularity and technological adaptability within the OP Stack. It also looks to reinforce the mission set by Optimism to make ZK rollups a core part of the infrastructure.

With OP Succinct now being available for Conduit rollups, chains can convert from optimistic rollups to ZK rollups without needing extensive redeployments. This adaptability looks to drive increased adoption of ZK technology across rollups built on the OP Stack. In turn, this can lead to improved user experiences, reduced costs, and greater network interoperability.

Initiatives like these can provide a direct roadmap for scaling Ethereum and empowering builders to create decentralized applications with greater efficiency and customization.
