🔥What we’re watching: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Matchain launched a Silver Card NFT membership priced at $10,000 with a supply of 70 cards available.
🔥Why it matters: The Silver Card is designed to be a digital asset that goes beyond most collectibles and NFTs as it tokenizes access to digital and physical experiences. Matchain and PSG plan to turn this digital asset into a membership card with real-world utility.
The membership gives holders access to VIP events with former players, exclusive Jordan brand merchandise and private community experiences. The tokenized experiences give supporters connection to the club ranging from dining with former players to pitch side access. Additionally, supporters can get personalized video messages from players on the team. These elements can enhance the fan experience by incorporating specific initiatives in a growing digital age.
“It’s a capsule of access, identity and culture,” Matchain CEO Petrix Barbosa said in the press release. “[It’s] built for collectors, superfans and believers in what fandom can become.”
The release of the Silver Card can also build upon the culture of PSG and the city of Paris. These immersive and exclusive experiences showcase how blockchain technology can help a club create a community by building deeper connections with its supporters.
The global fanbase of PSG is predominantly outside of France and over 80% are under the age of 34. This is important because in a world that’s becoming increasingly more digital, these tokenized assets can be seen as a tool for building culture and loyalty for supporters around the world.
🔥The bigger picture: The tokenization of fan experiences can help brands and organizations, with cult-like followings similar to PSG, build fervent globally connected communities. Additionally, by exploring direct-to-fan models through digital assets it can present another avenue for revenue.
By tokenizing exclusive access and experiences, it can give ownership and a unique experience to supporters to feel more connected to the brands they love. The ability to trade these collectibles onchain can build further exclusivity with supply and demand dynamics coming into play.
In general, tokenized memberships can help to transform supporters from passive consumers to community members with VIP experiences, digitally and in-person. This bridges the community-centric culture that NFTs have, in order to be a solution for organizations that have fragmented fan bases around the world.
