Spotlight on Optimism’s Superchain

Highlighting some of the biggest updates on Optimism’s Superchain this week.

⚡What’s happening: The Superchain is expanding, again.

⚡Why it matters: If you’re reading this newsletter, you probably are paying attention to the Superchain constantly. This past week, Worldcoin announced its World Chain, a layer-2 blockchain built on top of the OP Stack, that will launch later this summer and join the Superchain.

Separately, on Monday, Celo shared plans to migrate to the technology as well to build its L2 after a unanimous community vote. Celo’s developer CLabs has spent a number of months evaluating proposals from a number of L2 teams for its new chain, but eight months after its initial announcement and tons of due diligence it’s making its bet on the OP Stack.

⚡What it means for the broader ecosystem: With a number of layer-2 chains out there to choose from, major projects and teams deciding to build on Optimism’s open-sourced development stack speaks to its technology and long term ecosystem sustaining itself for years to come. Also, Worldcoin joining the Optimism ecosystem is bringing in its over 10 million users to the Superchain.

As more projects join the ecosystem and broader Optimism Collective, it expands the possibilities for the scaling of communities building on top of the OP Stack to cross-collaborate. Think of it like sister companies: when one does something, the other can benefit indirectly from it.

⚡ TLDR: The OP Stack is getting even more stacked with a number of projects tapping its technology to build on top of it. This can also bring sequencer revenue back to the Optimism Collective, add greater scalability to Ethereum, while keeping fees low, and create greater leverage for those within the OP Stack – thanks to its open codebase, alongside existing chains like Base, Zora, Fraxtal and Mode, to name a few.
