Inside the blockchain

🌐What happened: Midnight, a game publishing studio, announced it will launch Midnight Market. This is its first release of a 26-game series within The Evergreen, Midnight’s “deconstructed MMORPG platform.”

🌐Why does it matter: This platform is built in collaboration with the Aptos Foundation and is powered using the Aptos blockchain. The Evergreen looks to stand out from traditional MMO platforms by combining interoperability and cross-genre gameplay to create a decentralized gaming experience.

Midnight will incorporate traditional AA gaming experiences with the advantages of blockchain technology, such as customization and in-game tokenomics. This method can offer players enhanced engagement and the ability to take control of their in-game items, while removing the limitations of single-theme MMOs.

The Aptos network offers high throughput and low latency to enhance user experience. This  enables a seamless interoperable experience that encourages gamers to participate in a player-driven environment. Midnight teaming up with the Aptos Foundation showcases the potential that web3 infrastructures can have on creating and enhancing decentralized gaming worlds.

🌐The big picture: A big choke point for web3 games – and blockchains they choose to build on – is the inability to handle large amounts of users playing at the same time. Aptos has proven in the past it can adequately handle a large amount of transactions through other games like the “tap-to-earn” Tapos app. So, if Aptos can also handle the mass influx of players, it can showcase the blockchain’s ability to handle high levels of throughput and the immense amount of growth that web3 games have.

As Midnight’s platform expands, the blend of interoperability, engaging gameplay, and blockchain-powered economies could pave the way for more decentralized experiences across the web3 gaming industry.
