Highlight of the The Root Networks
Diving deeper into some of the biggest updates from Futureverse.
💫What’s happening: Interoperability and gaming are two of the most talked about areas of interest within the web3 community. The Root Network and Futureverse want to be at the forefront of this, its co-founder Aaron McDonald said during The Root Network Quarterly Webinar with Token Relations.
💫Why it matters: Digital ownership is one of the main attractions and argument points people in web3 use when asked why the blockchain matters so much. “Interoperability is kind of the core [tenant] to make ownership real,” McDonald said. “ We're trying to enhance interoperability in the same way that LayerZero does for tokens [and] bring capability to any asset on any chain.”
Specifically in the context of gaming, interoperability is important because it can enable a more seamless, interconnected and player-driven gaming experience. McDonald added one of the biggest promises of web3 gaming is the ability for players to truly own in-game assets, such as skins, weapons or avatars. Unlike traditional games, web3 games can allow these assets to be used across multiple games or platforms.
In regards to interoperability, The Root Network’s relationship with Ripple (XRP Ledger) was also discussed during the webinar. For context, XRPL has a TVL amount of $80.63 million, according to DefiLlama, but has limited capabilities in terms of interoperability. However, because of the two network’s integrating, developers who want to dive into the world of DeFi using XRP, can bridge to The Root Network and use its pallets or EVM support.
“We want people to build into the XRPL ecosystem, via The Root Network, because that's where they deploy their protocols,” McDonald said. “These developers can use The Root Network technology to bootstrap interchain use cases that can increase transaction volumes, users and utility.”
By tying in more tools, chains and elements for users and developers, this can present more opportunities on the network.
💫 The bigger picture: In general, The Root Network has made movements to increase interoperability across various ecosystems, specifically use cases that entice developers to build in the ecosystem and empower users to own their assets.
Even though new products are constantly being shipped by the network, that doesn’t necessarily equate to success. To McDonald, success is when “ everyone else using it” and “creating new capabilities for players that don’t exist yet.”
With the rise of web3 gaming and XRP in recent months, Futureverse looks to position itself as a key player for interoperability.
