Inside the network
🔺What we’re watching: Last week, Visa announced it extended stablecoin support to the Avalanche blockchain, including PayPal’s PYUSD, Paxos-issued USDG and Circle’s EURC.
🔺Why it matters: Visa’s integration of PYUSD, USDG and EURC stablecoins with support for the Avalanche network is a next step toward mainstream adoption of blockchain-based payments. Visa’s expansion of its stablecoin settlement platform, beyond Ethereum and Solana, enhances its digital asset interoperability by enabling cost-effective cross-border transactions across a number of networks.
For the Avalanche ecosystem, this integration brings increased visibility and utility of the chain to the payment provider’s massive business, trailing the Avalanche Foundation’s Visa credit card launch in February.
With added stablecoin support, Visa can reduce friction for consumers, sellers and even financial institutions. This enables entities like these to settle transactions in both dollar and euro-backed assets, establishing global use cases without being potentially blocked by intermediaries.
Aside from Avalanche, Visa also expanded its stablecoin settlement platform to include the Stellar network. This enables stablecoin transactions to be processed across four different blockchains. While this enhances flexibility and interoperability for digital payments, it paves the way for a future where users and developers can select their preferred network without having to worry about limited features.
🔺The bigger picture: Integrations like these can progress the digital payments landscape by showcasing how blockchain-enabled solutions are able to fit directly into traditional payment infrastructures.
Visa’s support for more stablecoins and networks signals its growing trust of blockchain technology, potentially attracting institutions to explore its use cases beyond as an investable asset. The ability to settle transactions with stablecoins like PYUSD, USDG and EURC, directly on chains like Avalanche can position itself as a platform for enterprise-grade applications that offers fast and compliant transactions to streamline real-world business operations.
