What Caught Our Eye This Month
Ripple has received the go-ahead from Singapore’s Monetary Authority to expand its scope of payment activities in the country under its Major Payment Institution license. This allows Ripple to offer a broader suite of regulated services, including collection, holding, swapping, and payouts.
Abu Dhabi’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority has recognized RLUSD as an Accepted Fiat-Referenced Token. Licensed firms within ADGM, the emirate’s international financial centre, can now use RLUSD as a settlement asset for cross-border transactions and treasury operations.
Hong Kong-based RedotPay has integrated Ripple’s payments service to power stablecoin-to-fiat payouts. Users can now send XRP or stablecoins and receive Nigerian naira, Brazilian real, or Mexican pesos in their local bank accounts within minutes.
XRP Rundown
➡️ What happened: XRP ETFs have attracted total inflows of $944.13 million since launching on November 14, bringing total assets to $945.49 million, according to SoSoValue data as of December 10. Four funds now trade on U.S. exchanges: Canary’s XRPC on Nasdaq, and Grayscale’s GXRP, Bitwise’s XRP, and Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ on NYSE.
➡️ Why it matters: The strong inflows signal strong demand for regulated crypto, especially XRP, as major institutional funds enable regulated access to the token.
In just under three weeks, XRP ETFs have accumulated nearly $1 billion in assets, outpacing most crypto ETF launches outside of Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Canary leads the pack with $371.27 million in cumulative inflows and $357.53 million in net assets, followed by Grayscale ($222.7 million), Bitwise ($199.86 million), and Franklin Templeton ($165.36 million). The fact that Franklin Templeton, a $1.5 trillion asset manager, has launched an ETF for XRP alongside crypto-native issuers like Grayscale and Bitwise suggests that there is broad demand for XRP as an asset among mainstream investors. Additionally, Vanguard recently announced that its 50 million brokerage clients will be able to access regulated exposure to digital assets, including these ETFs.
Daily flows have remained positive since launch. November 14 proved the best day for the ETFs, recording $243 million in inflows, followed by November 24, which saw $164 million coming in, and November 20, when $118.6 million was invested.
The ETFs now represent nearly 0.74% of XRP’s total market cap. Daily trading volume reached $31.5 million on December 3, with Bitwise seeing the highest share volume.
➡️ The big picture: The launch and seemingly continuing success of the XRP ETFs mark a turning point for retail and institutional access to the token. For years, regulatory uncertainty kept XRP out of traditional investment products. Now, four asset managers, including Franklin Templeton, offer broad exposure to the token via standard brokerage accounts.
The heavy trading comes alongside Ripple’s efforts to expand its regulatory footprint globally. In the past week, Singapore approved an expanded payments license for Ripple in the country, Abu Dhabi recognized RLUSD as an accepted stablecoin, and RedotPay integrated Ripple’s payments service for consumer remittances.
